Family and Community Health Sciences Educator- Full Time – Rutgers University – Monmouth County

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is searching for a community-engaged scholar to support the Community Food Systems working group within the Department of Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) in Monmouth County. This 100% Extension-funded position offers an exciting opportunity for applied research in food security and developing new strategic and innovative initiatives in the areas of nutrition, chronic disease prevention, health, and wellness. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS), this tenure-track faculty position will provide leadership as a liaison between campus-based researchers at Rutgers University, the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station, and Rutgers Cooperative Extension, and clientele and colleague groups such as local and state stakeholders.

FCHS Educators are expected to demonstrate excellence in extension practice, teaching, and service. Key duties include: assessing local needs to design, implement, and evaluate relevant programs, especially programs that promote and support overall nutrition, health and chronic disease prevention. Additional duties include developing strategies and maximizing effectiveness of culturally relevant educational programs utilizing a variety of delivery modes in collaboration with community organizations and stakeholders.   It is an expectation of RCE leadership that all county-based faculty positively contribute to the successful and collegial operation of the county office.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in nutrition, public health, community education, or a related field. A minimum of three years of relevant work experience. A doctoral degree is preferred. Candidate must demonstrate excellence in written, oral, interpersonal, and information technology communication skills. The candidate should have a deep understanding of nutrition and/or public health and be able to design and implement a program that responds to community strengths, assets, and needs, that leads to positive changes and impact within the community and beyond. Additional position requirements include:
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt as circumstances warranted.
  • Willingness to actively promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Program Associate II – Full Time – Nutrition Educator – SNAP-Ed – Rutgers University – Camden County

The New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) is an integral component of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. The experiment station provides a diverse range of research, extension, and education programs that serve the people of New Jersey and the urban, suburban, and rural communities in which they live. Through its Cooperative Extension offices in all 21 New Jersey counties, dedicated 4-H agents, Extension specialists, Family & Community Health Sciences educators, and Agriculture and Natural Resources agents work to serve New Jersey residents in every area of the state.

The Family and Community Health Sciences Department of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is looking for a bilingual (Spanish/ English) candidate to fill a Program Associate II – Nutrition Educator position within the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance – Education Program (SNAP-Ed). This position provides nutrition education for the SNAP-Ed program in Camden County and throughout Region 2 (Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Mercer Counties). The position is located in Camden County NJ. Reporting to the Senior Program Coordinator Supervisor, the Program Associate II (PA II) provides nutrition education in both English and Spanish to SNAP-eligible residents located in SNAP-Ed Region 2. 

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education (SNAP-Ed) is a federally funded grant program that supports evidence-based nutrition education and obesity prevention interventions and projects for persons eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) through complementary direct education, multi-level interventions, and community and public health approaches to improve nutrition. The goal of the education provided is to help program participants improve their food security, dietary quality, physical activity, and food safety behaviors

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Recruits and works with agencies willing to host SNAP-Ed program(s).
  • Ensures compliance with all federal outreach and budget guidelines regarding all activities that occur within the project.
  • responsible for various reports designed to document the project’s success.
  • Serves on appropriate boards and councils in the community to maintain a strong presence for the program.
  • Serves as a role model for their volunteers and always maintains a professional demeanor and confidentiality.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Minimum Education Requirements

Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree preferably in nutrition, health education, public health, nursing, allied health, health sciences, biology or biological sciences, social work, urban studies/community development or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
