Anisha Chhibber, MS, RDN, CNSC, FAND is living her dream! Ever since she was a child, Anisha was attracted to the health profession. She had the full support of her parents – her mother a teacher and her father an army officer, who encouraged her to make that vision a reality. So, following graduation with a Bachelor’s in home science and a master’s in food & nutrition specializing in Institutional Management & Dietetics from Lady Irwin College in India, Anisha was confident in her decision to lay the groundwork for her career in a setting she had long visualized. “I began working at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in the same city. I spent seven years overseeing Apollo hospital, a 750-bed acute care institution and was exposed to people from all walks of life. India is very multicultural, so I practiced and provided diet and nutrition education and counseling to people from different social stratifications and educational backgrounds.”
Now, those preparatory years have culminated in the challenging but satisfying opportunity of currently providing nutrition support to critical care patients at Morristown Medical Center. “I love working with individuals who have complex medical conditions and require specialized nutrition interventions, such as those with brain injury, gastrointestinal disorders, cancer, and critical illness. This specialization provides me with an opportunity to make a significant impact on the health and well-being of these individuals.”
Among her many accolades, Anisha is a graduate of St Elizabeth University, a distinguished Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, a CDR Commissioner, as well as the current Chair of the RD, DTR entry level exam panel. Clearly a woman of excellence, Anisha carefully structures her days to also include her many volunteer responsibilities. “I have always tried to give back to my profession by volunteering and precepting dietetic students as well as other health care professionals and continue to promote health and nutrition at work as well as in the community.”
New Jersey has been home to Anisha and her family for 18 years. This mother of two girls said her husband and children have played a pivotal role in helping her chart the course to professional success. “None of my professional accomplishments would have been possible without the unconditional love and support of my family.” Anisha also credits Suparna Ghosh Jerath, MSc, PhD, program director at the George Institute for Global Health, New Delhi, India and Kathryn Hamilton, MA, RDN, CSO, CDN, FAND, clinical nutrition supervisor at John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack as primary figures who helped to shape her personally and professionally.
Anisha loves to cook and host friends and family. “These days in addition to cooking, I am having a lot of fun making different food boards – cheese, breakfast, and Mediterranean boards to name a few. I also love to collect home decoration, curios and crockery and set up the dining area with a themed cuisine and home décor. I am also passionate about decorating my home for special occasions, seasons, and holidays.”
