Meet Lexi Moriarty, MS, RDN, CSSD, RYT

Lexi Moriarty is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who has lived in New Jersey for the past 13 years.  She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Maryland (UMD) in 2009, followed by her dietetic internship with Aramark in 2010. In 2015, she furthered her studies by obtaining her Master’s degree in Food and Nutrition from New York University.

Growing up, Lexi always planned to become a first grade teacher. In high school she became very interested in running and health. After pursuing nutrition information in this area, Lexi found that it was not readily available and often what she did find was quite misleading.  Upon exploring majors during visiting day at UMD, Lexi was intrigued with dietetics. Being a dietitian gave her the opportunity to fulfill her passion for teaching while at the same time working in an area that interested her personally.

Now, Lexi owns her own private practice, Expert Nutrition and Wellness, which she has operated full time for the past two years. As a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics and a Body Positive Facilitator, she works mainly in the areas of sports nutrition, eating disorders, and disordered eating; however, she also covers low energy availability, amenorrhea, and everything in-between. Lexi’s work day varies.  Typically she meets with clients two days per week.  Other days she spends marketing, networking, and branding herself.

In addition to running her own private practice, Lexi is also an active member of the New Jersey Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, where she leads the Union County Professional Networking Group.

Prior to opening up Expert Nutrition and Wellness, Lexi worked for four years as a Clinical and Sports Dietitian at Princeton University. During this time, she worked with Division One athletes and was part of an interdisciplinary treatment team to support students with eating disorders.

One piece of advice Lexi gives to students considering a career in dietetics is to know your passion. While it is certainly very important to gain a solid foundation, never lose sight of the area you find most appealing.

Lexi’s favorite aspect about living in New Jersey is spending time at a lake in Western NJ with her mother and grandma. She now gets to continue this tradition by taking her own children to this very same lake! For fun, Lexi enjoys spending time outdoors and  being active. Whether alone or with her kids or dog, she enjoys hiking, running, and many other outdoor activities.
