Erin Palinski is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a New Jersey native. She received her undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and completed her dietetic internship at Saint Elizabeth University in NJ. Erin started college as a physical education major with the goal of opening her own gymnastics gym to train high level athletes. She took a sports nutrition class, fell in love with the topic, and switched majors!
Erin works as a private practice and media dietitian, as well as a business coach for healthcare professionals. Her favorite part of the job is that every day is different; she can tap into all of her interests, reach a larger audience, and have the flexibility to balance her career along with her family. She mentions, “I may spend one day working with clients as well as students in the Master the Media coaching program I run alongside Amy Gorin, RDN, the next day filming video content for my social media channels or a brand client, and another day fielding broadcast interviews with a TV show or talking to reporters to provide quotes for their upcoming stories.”
Erin is grateful for many of the exceptional mentors she had throughout her journey. Carol Papillon, MPH, RDN at Virginia Tech was instrumental in increasing her interest in private practice by creating a program where dietetic students could provide nutrition counseling to their peers. During her dietetic internship at Saint Elizabeth, Monica Luby, MS, RDN, and Kathleen Carozza, MA, RDN did everything they could to ensure Erin had rotations in areas of dietetics she was interested in, including private practice and a web-based health coaching program. She reflects, “I credit all of them in helping me to truly believe my dreams were achievable goals and giving me the confidence to go out and achieve them.”
The biggest challenge for Erin is that she feels she took the road less traveled. Erin always knew she wanted to work for herself, but during her dietetics training, she didn’t come across many dietitians that worked in private practice, corporate wellness, or media. She was lucky enough to connect with several dietitians along the way who shared their experiences and answered questions. Erin’s journey inspired her to co-create the Master the Media Coaching Program, to provide support for other healthcare professionals to successfully work with the media.
Erin’s advice for future dietitians is this: “The field of dietetics is so incredible that almost every area of practice you can imagine can be available to you. Focus on your passions, what brings you joy, what skill sets you have and look to that to combine it into a career path that allows you to achieve your dreams while helping others in the process.”
Erin’s favorite part about New Jersey is that all her family is here and it is centrally located to major cities, beaches, nature, and winter sports. It is such a diverse area with so much opportunity! Erin loves growing her business in New Jersey and raising her family here.
